Tattoo Removal

As much as people love those silly tattoos they got when they were 18, you know the ones they look at everyday and say “What was I thinking?”, there are now ways to get rid of them! Lazor removal is the most common of these ways but takes many treatments before the tattoo fully dissapears and the process is pretty painful. Lazor removal also costs a pretty penny and the effectivness of the removal is not always guaranteed. Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) is another top removal option. IPL is less painful than lazor and is more effective, however it can be just as expensive. Another form of tattoo removal is do-it-yourself creams you can purchase and use at home. I’d be skeptical about these, they sound to good to be true. The creams are the least expensive, pain-free, but aslso take a few months of treatment before the tattoo is “gone”. Going along with one of my latter posts, its a good idea to really think on the tattoo you want to get before you get it, or else somewhere down your life’s road you’ll be shelling out more money to remove the tattoo, and perhaps go through even more pain, getting rid of it.

Prive vs. Quality

” A good tattoo is never cheap, and a cheap tattoo is never good,” this is the tagline for one of the many shops in Toledo, Ohio. I agree whole-heartedly with this quote. I’m not saying to break the bank getting a tattoo but when you get a tattoo your putting something on your body that is going to be their forever, so whats more important price or quality? The legal way to tattoo is in a shop, and this is where you, in most cases, pay the most but get the best quaility. Its illegal, in all states I believe but don’t quote me, to tatttoo inside your house or anywhere that is not a health board certified tatttoo shop. These artists are going to charge you less than an artist in a shop but the quality of work your getting is probably not going to be very high. Getting a tattoo somewhere other than in a tattoo shop also comes with health risks. Are these artists able to steralize their needles? Where do they put the used ones? In a tattoo parlor artists have autoclaves to steralize their needs, bars and tubes; they have biohazard containers to store the used needles in so no diseases can be spread. When it comes to gettting a tattoo I would choose quality over price anyday. When considering which artist you’ll have do your work I would first take a look around the artists studio, is it clean? If your all clear in the clean department I would then ask to see a portfolio of the artists work, all commited artists should have one displaying their best work. Its only then, after seeing theire station or studio and their portfolio, that I would commit to the artist or move on to another. Of course these are just my own opinions and suggestions, your thoughts on this matter may differ from mine.

Young peole crave individuality, more so than older people. Tattoos are just one way to say “Hey! Look at me, I’m different from her, or him.” Many younger people rush into tattoo parlors and get the first thing they think is “cool” without giving much thought to how they are going to feel about the piece when they are older. Being the daughter of a tattoo artist I have seen many older men and woman getting fresh peices to cover up the mistakes from their past. I’m 19 and I have two tattoos. I got my first when I was 16, I let my friend carve a star into my ankle with a razor blade, needle and indain ink. When my dad saw this I was 17 and already regretted it. Having watched so many people have to cover up older tattoos with huge peices, I knew I couldn’t just get anything, but what I fixed the star with had to be something I would want forever. It took me about 2 months to decide on a peice. It took me a year after that before I had to decided on what to get next. I love tattoos and I want many more, but I can’t just pick something that looks cool but means nothing to me and put it on my body. A tattoo should be something you love, something that has some meaning to you, or is a reminder of something or someone. I’m all for tattoos, I encourage people to get out their get tattted up, but to save yourself some time. money, and a little pain, for heavensake, PUT SOME THOUGHT INTO IT!

Change of direction…

I have decided that art stlyes is just to broad a topic to cover. Since tattooing is the direction my life will be taking after I graduate school, and because I’ve had the most views on it, my blog will now be about tattooing. I’ll cover artists, shows, and maybe even put up a few pics for critiquing. I hope this change of direction will be more beneficial to others, as well as myself.

Graffiti

I see graffiti eveyday, at the park down the street, on traffic signs, buildings, even cars. As an art style I think graffiti is pretty cool, though I have never really been good at it. I have seen some pretty awesome graffiti pieces looking around on the net, these works of art are what make graffiti a cool art style, and can help give a city more personality. However I think that simply tagging a street sign or the side of someone’s car with simple phrases in single colors is not very artistic and gives graffiti artists who put time and effort into huge pieces of many colors and thought out letter combinations, a bad image. In my opinion, tags also make cities look dirty.

Tattooing is perhaps one of the most popular growing art styles in the 21st century. The word tattoo is said to have two major derivations; from the polynesian word ‘ta’ which means striking something and the tahitian word ‘tatau’ which means ‘to mark something’. Tattooing came about over 5000 years ago! Though now everybody is getting tattoos they are especially popular with criminals, sailors, and circus folk. Tattoos are still discriminated against by the older generation, most places of employment not wanting their employees to have any visable during their working hours. I believe this will change as time goes on and tattoos continue to grow as people strive to become more individualized.

Hi there! My name is Tiffany, I’m a Graphics student at Spec’s Howard School of Broadcast Arts. For the next 7 weeks I will be keeping this blog for my Web Integration class. I have never done a blog before so I’m really excited about trying something new. There are so many different types of art in the world so my blog will be dedicated to educating and enlightening on some of the different stlyes. Some of the styles I will be “blogging” about include tatttooing, graffiti, and computer graphics. Thats all I have to say for now, I’ll be back in a day or so with my first real post.
